Xeomin/Botox Q & A

What is Botox?

Botox is two things. First, it’s short for botulinum toxin, a treatment used to eliminate wrinkles. Second, it’s the brand name of a specific botulinum toxin treatment, BOTOX® Cosmetic (similar to the way we often call facial tissues by a single brand name: Kleenex®).

Let’s talk about botulinum toxin. This toxin has the power to temporarily freeze your muscles. When applied to targeted muscles in your face, it can perfectly paralyze them to smooth out the wrinkles over them. This makes botulinum toxin treatments highly effective for removing wrinkles from:

  • Between your eyebrows
  • Your forehead
  • The corners of your eyes (crow’s feet)

But not all botulinum toxin treatments are created equal. In addition to Botox, Dr. Johnston also offers Xeomin to give you access to the same smoothing power at a lower price point.

What is Xeomin?

Xeomin functions much like Botox. The primary difference is that it’s a purer medication. During the Xeomin production process, the unnecessary proteins present in other botulinum toxin-based injections are filtered out.

The perks of Xeomin don’t stop there, either. Not only are you getting a more refined treatment, but you can also save money by choosing Xeomin. Dr. Johnston offers this treatment to her patients because it’s a more affordable injectable that offers the same results as brand name Botox.

Like Botox, the process for receiving a Xeomin treatment is quick and easy, usually taking just 15 minutes or less. There is no downtime at all with this treatment.

Is Xeomin permanent?

No. Like with Botox, the results of Xeomin fade over time. Most first-time Xeomin treatments last between three and four months. Subsequent treatment results may last as long as six months, depending on your unique skin.

But don’t worry. When your wrinkles start to reappear, Dr. Johnston offers touch-up treatments. And because the treatment is so fast and doesn’t require any recovery time, you can get it whenever you need it. In fact, people commonly refer to it as a lunchtime procedure because they pop in when they have a free moment in their day, and they continue on with their scheduled activities immediately afterward.

If you’re ready to say goodbye to wrinkles, call Donna Johnston, MD, or schedule your free consultation online.
